After winning a Red Dot Award in 2016, Italian furniture designer Alias has again come up with the goods, winning an international Red Dot Product Design Award 2017 for its Rollingframe 52 chair by Alberto Meda.
The latest Red Dot, which honours the outstanding quality of producers and designers from around the world, crowns Alias’ efforts at expanding its products and strengthening its roots in furniture design. Last year Alias won a Red Dot Product Design Award with its Kayak Chair by Patrick Norget and its Twig 4 chair by Nendo.
Alias is one of the most established names in Italian furniture design, whose values since inception in 1979 of versatility, technological lightness, and innovation have culminated in this latest win. The Red Dot Award is one of the highest accolades available in the world of design.
The jury of design professors, journalists specialising in design, and independent designers from across the globe will present the Red Dot Awards during a celebration in Zollverein, Essen, Germany on July 3 this year.
After much research into contemporary chairs and the innovations in office seating arrangements and design, the Rollingframe 52 was born. The chair mimics those used in workstations where company staff perform their duties with the emphasis on modern office design accentuating light, airiness and a creative environment.
The Rollingframe 52 began using the framework of the rollingframe chair with its oscillating TILT apparatus. Alias then asked Alberto Meda to research a different base and system with a new concept from past series to allow the chair to be widened by 10 per cent.
Alberto Meda came up with the new flat and slender design and a new base with a diameter of 70 centimeters, and it is so thin that it nearly defies the laws of physical resistance. The chair, on castors, with a five-star swivel base in die-cast aluminium, has a seat and backrest that can tilt simultaneously. You can adjust the stiffness of the spring that governs the oscillating mechanism based on the user’s weight.
The chair comes with or without armrests and with different finishes. These are chrome-plated and polished, or with enamel painted in various hues with the backrest and seat made from PVC coated polyester mesh available in different colours. These can be made from such materials that include leather branded Pelle Frau® Color System (SC) or Kvadrat® fabrics. All Rollingframe 52 collections comply with UNI 1335C standards with regard to functional requirements for office seating and ergonomic principles.
Cosh Living is the exclusive Australian distributor for Alias products as well as the top international and national indoor and outdoor brands Tribu, Manutti, Gloster, Alki, La Palma, Softline, Potocco and Cosh.
